“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” Psalms 139:23-24, NKJV.
One night while lying in bed, I whispered to God, “Lord, search me. Search my heart.” I couldn’t put a finger on what it was that was bothering me, but I felt like something wasn’t right and I couldn’t rest until I knew what it was. Have you ever been there? You’re trying to pray, but something’s bothering you. You’re trying to rest, but something’s bothering you. I asked, “What is it Lord?” I didn’t have time to be afraid of what He’d show me. I wanted whatever the problem was to be exposed by Him and eradicated from my heart. Whether it was sin in me, a wrong perspective, a wrong desire or pursuit, or anything I’ve allowed in my life that I shouldn’t have, whatever it was…I wanted God to search it out. We can’t serve someone that’s pure and holy and have impure motives, impure desires and impure ways. We need to pray, “Lord search us. Try our hearts. See if there’s anything in us that’s not right. Lead us into your way everlasting.” The wonderful thing is, He will do exactly that. He will search our hearts through and through. He will locate the sin that’s blocking our progress. He will lead us into His way.
Prayer: Father, you’re a holy God. Make me holy. Search me. Examine the deeper parts of my heart. See if there is anything in me that’s not right and remove it far from me. Purify my heart and my desires. Lead me God into your way of life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
