Lord, help me not sin with my lips.

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21

I remember years ago when my husband shared with our family the word for the year. He called me and the kids into the living room and said the Lord had given him a word that it would be a year of abundance. I received that word in my heart with joy. However, some months later, situations were coming at us left and right that made it feel like everything but a year of abundance. In my anguish, I said out of my mouth, “This is a year of abundance alright; yeah, an abundance of stress!!!” As soon as those words left my mouth, things began to get worse instead of better. When Holy Spirit brought this to my attention, I immediately canceled those words and repented to God.

The Bible talks about how God allowed Job to lose his health, his wealth, and his children, but He pointed out how Job never once sinned with his lips. Even though he felt pain from the boils on his skin, unbearable grief from his loss, was deeply depressed because his friends were of no help at all, he never once released any words out of his mouth that attacked God’s character or made Him appear to be a liar.

My sister, I know the temptation is real to say some things out of hurt and anger. I know you don’t like the situation, but we are going to breathe and resolve within ourselves that we’re not going to sin with our lips. We know that death and life are in the power of the tongue. We are not handing over our victory because we can’t put a reign on our lips. We’re going to receive the help of Jesus today. We’re going to watch what we’re thinking and dwelling on today. We’re going to trust the Lord to be faithful to His Word today. We’re going to believe God to do what He’s promised us in His perfect timing and in His perfect way.

Prayer: Father God, forgive me for any words I have released from my mouth that displeased you and are contrary to your Word. I didn’t mean it. I cancel those words right now in the name of Jesus. Father, you are true, and you are faithful. You are good to me, and you are my strength. You watch over your words to perform them. Help me speak your words from my mouth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.” Job 2:10

(Read Mark 4:18-20)

  1. Thank you for sharing another personal story with us. For me, this is what makes you such a good Bible teacher/prophetess is that you share real stories about how you apply God‘s word to your life in the midst of the same day to day struggles we all have. I don’t learn from people who just reiterate the Bible to me, but when there’s real sharing about how one has applied God’s word to their life, and how it’s benefited them even though the enemy throughout all kinds of obstructions, they still prevailed. (I accidentally deleted my first post and sorry if I repeated myself ) Your posts have so encouraged me and I often pass them on to friends.
So thank you Kesha and family; the DOTK family is indeed blessed by you.

I pray Romans 15:13 NIV over you.
