Take your rest.

“You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and take your rest in safety” Job 11:18, NIV.

While standing in a grocery store line waiting to check out, the cashier looks at me and she has an upset look on her face. I ask her if she’s okay. Her eyes begin to tear up and she says, “No ma’am, I’ve been here since very early this morning and they haven’t given me a break.” Staring at her, I felt sorry for her. Yet, I couldn’t help but wonder why she wouldn’t take the break she knew she needed. It was up to her to go to her manager and ask for a break.

My sister, you are responsible for giving your body the rest it needs. Not anyone else. You! You can’t wait for someone to come to you and say, “Awww, you look tired. Let me give you a break from all of these responsibilities.” It’s up to you to open up and say, “Hey, I need a break.”

This doesn’t mean you empty your family savings and fly off to Hawaii somewhere. It only means you do what is necessary to recharge while considering the financial state of your family. The demands of life are best handled when you are rested.

Prayer: Father God, I thank you for your guidance and wisdom. Forgive me for not taking care of my body and giving it the rest it needs. Let your wisdom and grace abound in my life. Help me open up when I need rest. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

(Read Psalm 3:5; Matthew 11:28)

  1. So timely. Over the weekend, I encouraged my young niece to take a “wellness day” off from work. Her employer is expecting her to work 8 consecutive days, and with other things going on in her life I could tell she needed the break.. Ladies, you have permission to ask for what you need. Advocate for yourself. Set healthy boundaries and protect them. Some people may not like it but they’ll be okay. Remember what the flight attendant instructs you to do: In the event of an emergency, put your oxygen mask on first before assisting anyone else. God’s got you! Continue to rest and shine!

  2. Good morning God! Thank You for helping to recognize when I need to rest! I’m getting it more and more! I know longer physically abuse my body by not resting it! I have seen that it makes in big difference in the way that I think as well! I love You Gid on high! You are my all! These things I pray in Jesus Christ name, Amen! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

  3. As a fan of City College, I uplift a dear friend that needs to hear these words of taking advantage of taking rest

    To you!
